We're getting "BATTY" this week!

We will be studying all about BATS this week. We will be doing a variety of art, writing, science and math activities this week to learn all we can. Our featured book this week is Stellaluna. Out letters of focus are D and N...each child will continue working on their names as well. Number 7-10 will be practiced along the way.

The kids are doing very well! We are ALL getting into the groove and have basically figured each other out and how each of of "click". Please remember to check their boxes for their work, they are working very hard on everything the do.

Last week we ended the week with baking choclate chip cookies...what a blast! This week we will end the week by making a fruit salad...after learning about what fruit bats enjoy eating.

Dance and Spanish Classes

Dear Just Kids Families,

We are excited to offer DANCE and SPANISH classes for our preschool students! Fall session begins this week! (However, classes are on-going and you can register at any time.)

Here is a little more about the programs…

Spanish

This dynamic, immersion-based program is fun and engaging for the preschool learner. Students learn Spanish through interactive stories, songs, games, and art projects. Playful and relaxed classes support a natural approach to language acquisition.

Research shows that the best time to acquire language is when you are young. Learning a second language helps students to develop excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills and can improve overall school performance. Most importantly, it’s fun!

Teacher, Elizabeth Weybright has a Master’s in Teaching and has been teaching Spanish for more than a decade. She has lived in and traveled throughout Latin America and Spain. Her enthusiasm and expertise shine through in her approach to teaching.

Did you know that today was 'National Make a Hat Day?' Well, in celebration of this great holiday we made our own hats!! The kiddos enjoyed themselves very much...I enjoyed watching their creativity and eye for design emerge! Enjoy the photos! For math today we worked on graphing. As a class we tasted 6 different kinds of apples...and then graphed our favorite apples! All 5 kids chose Granny Smith!

Watercolor Painting our trip to the garden

September 14-18

We are studying APPLES this week. We will be doing a variety of projects surrounded by apples all week. On Friday, we will be making our own apple sauce. I will provide everything for this. I have asked the kids to think of a snack that they could share with their class (8 kids) on Friday that is from an apple! They had a lot of ideas today when we talked about the possibilities. Also, don’t forget that Spanish begins on Thursday!! If you have questions please ASK! We’re having a great time…its so much fun! If you haven’t checked it out, keep up with us on our blog, jkprek.blogspot.com…all of the weeks announcements are here!

...Thursday, September 17th from 9:30-10:15.

We will only be offering class 1x per week at this point, unless we get more kids interested in double. If you have any questions let me know! Thanks. :)

Seeds and Apples!

Today was our second full day and the kids did wonderful! We worked very hard on counting and identifying numbers and took some time to work on writing 1,2 & 3. They also got some computer time, which they enjoyed a whole bunch.

For science this month we are working on SEEDS AND APPLES! Today we prepared two planters each for tomorrows class...where we will plant a variety of seeds. We will be creating science journals as well to record our data as our seeds begin to grow! As a class we visited the garden too...identifying many of our plants and vegetables. We did some tasting of our peas that are growing and picked a carrot and potato!

We will begin talking about apples next week and doing a variety of projects with them, so be watching as we get going.

Thank you so much for bringing your kids to Just Kids...I have realized in just 2 days how much I miss getting to be in the midst of the "classroom"!

Spanish

We are ready to start Spanish class(es) next week. Please let me know what day(s) you would like your child to participate in. The choices are $20/month for 1 class a week or $40/month for 2 classes a week.

This is such a great opportunity for our kids to get a jumpstart on a foreign language at the age when they can take it all in, much better than we can!

We are off...

...and running!! Our first day was successful. We enjoyed our time with learning new rules, new procedures and of course looking and testing out all of our new school supplies! (I am realistic and understand that their new pencil boxes is what was on their minds!)

This week we will continue just learning how to "function" as a new classroom. We have added a few new friends, which is always nice!

Our focus this week will be to get settled and to begin the basics with a little more "push". We will spend some time in the garden and planting seeds...our unit next week will be apples. Watch the blog for updates with what we are doing!
